Building Material in Papua New Guinea

Most houses in rural PNG are made from locally grown plant material, including timber, woven cane (used for walls and partitions) and thatch for roofing. People normally gather the material for their houses themselves, but some building material is sold at roadside markets or within villages, particularly sheets of woven cane.

A typical PNG bush house lasts 12 or so years, after which the people here build themselves a new house. (via: Brad’s PNG Blog)
